Job Description
The Senior Manager, Engineering develops, implements, maintains and directs programs related to landfill environmental construction, and inactive facility management across the company’s landfill portfolio. The Senior Manager also provides design, oversight and support to the field level engineering positions through development and maintenance of the Engineering Onboarding and Training Program, as well as general liability management activities in support of all Company operations. The Senior Manager, Engineering communicates regularly with senior management in various departments within the corporate office including Operations Support, Legal, Accounting and Finance regarding budgeting, cash flow forecasting, metrics measurement, trend analysis, and action plan execution.

Principal Responsibilities
• Directs annual Engineering Budgeting and Cash Flow Forecasting process for construction of environmental protection infrastructure at the Company’s 300+ landfills.

• Drives the development of onboarding and ongoing skill development training for Engineering Department field-based staff, including Environmental Managers, Environmental Specialists and Technicians.

• Provides program management and technical expertise for the capping, closure and post-closure care of the Company’s 120+ closed landfills.

• Delivers innovative development and reuse options at Company’s inactive facilities, in conjunction with Business Development Department.

• Assists operations and business development teams with identification and assessment of landfill development opportunities.

• Acts as a primary point of contact for technical issues at inactive facilities for the Company.

• Provides interface between Corporate Engineering and the inactive business units/management, and field environmental staff.

• Provides technical support as acting environmental project manager or interim field Environmental Manager during periods of EM vacancies or significant temporary projects.

• This position may require travel up to 30% of the time.

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or related science.

• Licensure or certification as a Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.

• Minimum of 5 years of related environmental work experience, including experience in solid waste management and environmental engineering including permitting, monitoring and remediation. (Required).

• Experience with landfill operations including odor, leachate and surface water management. (Required).

• Experience with transfer station design, regulations and operations.

• Detailed knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.

• Effective interpersonal communication, both written and verbal, across various levels of the organization, with representatives of government agencies and consultants/vendors.

• Ability to effectively present information to top management, associates and/or regulatory agencies.

• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

• Strong motivational, coaching and teaching skills.

• Ability to understand business implications of decisions and can align work with strategic goals.

• Demonstrated decision making skills; displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits strong and accurate judgment, supports and explains reasoning for decisions, includes appropriate people in decision-making process and makes timely decisions.
